RCP also offers Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (Filial Therapy or CPRT) where parents are trained in "Special Playtimes" with their Child. Not only can CPRT improve the parent-child bond, but studies have shown that it may improve the child's self esteem, emotional vocabulary, anxiety levels, self efficacy and control, behavioural problems, and even Attachment issues.

How do counselling sessions at RCP work?

The first few counselling sessions will be mostly based on assessment, history taking and rapport building. After this a treatment plan will be conceptualised and tailored to the client's needs.

Session frequency will depend on the presenting issues and severity, however, it is recommended that sessions be weekly to fortnightly initially to see the most improvements. Once symptoms improve, the frequency will often be adjusted back as required.

In child-only sessions, parents will receive a brief feedback at the end of each session, all within the boundaries of confidentiality.
